What Is Synoptic Scale?

The size of weather features like big high and low pressure systems and fronts, spanning hundreds to thousands of miles. In technical terms: The atmospheric scale of about 1000-5000 km and several days, including extratropical cyclones, anticyclones, and long-wave troughs and ridges; roughly in approximate geostrophic and hydrostatic balance.
