What Is Damage Survey?
A visit by weather service experts after a storm to look at the damage and decide whether it was a tornado or straight-line wind, and how strong. In technical terms: A post-event field (and increasingly aerial or satellite) assessment by NWS meteorologists documenting damage indicators and degrees of damage, path length and width, and damage patterns (convergent versus divergent) to assign an EF rating and classify the event.
