What Is Probability Of Precipitation?
The chance, as a percent, that measurable rain or snow will fall at a given spot during a forecast period. In technical terms: In NWS usage, the probability that at least 0.01 inch (0.25 mm) of liquid-equivalent precipitation will occur at any given point in the forecast area during the valid period; conceptually PoP equals forecaster confidence times expected areal coverage.
Also called: PoP, Chance Of Rain
