What Is Knot?

A speed of one nautical mile per hour, about 1.15 mph. Wind in weather reports is often given in knots. In technical terms: A unit of speed equal to one nautical mile (1852 m) per hour: 1 kt = 0.514 m/s = 1.151 mph = 1.852 km/h.
