What Is NAM?
A U.S. weather model that covers North America in more detail than global models, forecasting out to about 3.5 days. In technical terms: The North American Mesoscale Forecast System run by NCEP, a regional model at 12 km grid spacing out to 84 h with nested 3 km domains (NAM Nest) out to 60 h; it is being replaced by the Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS).
