A very high, thin layer of the atmosphere where temperatures can soar above 1000 degrees, and where auroras and the space station are found. In technical terms: The atmospheric layer above the mesopause (about 85 km) extending to several hundred kilometers, in which temperature rises sharply with height from absorption of extreme UV radiation, reaching roughly 500-2000 °C depending on solar activity.
