What Is Weighting Function?
A curve that shows which heights of the atmosphere a satellite channel is mostly "seeing." In technical terms: The vertical derivative of transmittance with respect to height (or log pressure) for a radiometer channel, showing each layer's contribution to the measured radiance; GOES water vapor bands at 6.2, 6.9, and 7.3 micrometers peak in the upper, middle, and lower-middle troposphere respectively.
