What Is Water Vapor Imagery?
Satellite images showing moisture in the middle and upper atmosphere, even where there are no clouds. Great for seeing jet streams and storm systems. In technical terms: Infrared imagery in water-vapor absorption bands (GOES ABI bands 8-10, about 6.2-7.3 μm), sensing emission from the upper and middle troposphere; dark regions indicate dry air aloft and bright regions moist air or high clouds.
