What Is Intracloud Lightning?
Lightning that stays inside a cloud or jumps between clouds without hitting the ground. It is the most common kind. In technical terms: A lightning discharge between charge regions within a single cloud (and loosely including cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-air flashes), commonly 3-10 times more frequent than cloud-to-ground flashes; rapid increases signal updraft intensification.
