What Is Parcel?
An imaginary bubble of air that meteorologists follow as it rises or sinks to figure out if storms can form. In technical terms: A conceptual, infinitesimal air volume assumed to move adiabatically without mixing with its environment and to adjust instantly to environmental pressure; the basis of parcel theory used to compute CAPE, CIN, LCL, LFC, and EL.
