What Is Trough?
An elongated area of low pressure, often bringing clouds, rain, and cooler weather. In technical terms: An elongated region of relatively low pressure or geopotential height with cyclonic curvature; on upper-air charts, the equatorward dip of height contours; the area ahead (downstream) of an upper trough is typically favored for ascent.
