About The Author: Meet Jen, The Human Lightning Rod

Hi, I’m Jen. I wrote LightningWX, and this post stays pinned at the top so you always know who’s behind it.
I’m a photographer who spends a lot of time photographing lightning, a trained National Weather Service SKYWARN storm spotter, a coin dealer and a complete nerd who loves writing code. Call me a stay-at-home storm chaser. When I get bored, code starts running and the mad scientist ideas don’t stop until there’s software at the end of it.
The Human Lightning Rod
Photographing lightning means I’m the one outside when a storm rolls in. Don’t be like me. I’m the human lightning rod so you don’t have to be: when thunder roars, you go indoors and watch the strikes from inside with LightningWX. My lightning photographs live on Instagram at @lightninghunter. Enjoy them from your couch.
Why I Build Software
Every one of my obsessions ends up as a piece of my own software, because nothing out there is ever quite satisfying enough. Every weather app always has something missing, and I always want it all. LightningWX is the third big one in my portfolio:
- DeepTask, a heavy-duty process manager, from GenM Software
- CoinScope Pro, for my fellow coin nerds who over-analyze coins at the cellular level, at coinscopepro.com
- LightningWX, the weather workstation you’re looking at right now
The storm spotter part of my life is serious, and it’s why LightningWX always points you to official National Weather Service warnings and your local emergency officials. Everything else, I’m happy to be a nerd about. If you have a feature request and it’s interesting and nerdy enough, message me.
Red hair, a radar loop on every screen and an unreasonable love of weird weather.
