What Is Bolt From The Blue?

A lightning strike that comes out of the side of a storm and hits ground miles away under clear or blue sky. It is why you are not safe just because rain has not reached you. In technical terms: A positive or negative cloud-to-ground flash that exits the side or upper portion of a cumulonimbus, travels horizontally several kilometers (up to 15-40 km) and descends into clear air away from the precipitation core.
