What Is Positive Lightning?
A rare but very powerful type of lightning that carries a positive charge to the ground. It often strikes far from the storm. In technical terms: Cloud-to-ground lightning that lowers positive charge (+CG), roughly 5-10 percent of CG flashes; it often originates in the anvil or stratiform region, usually has a single return stroke with high peak current and long continuing current, and is common in winter storms and stratiform regions of MCSs.
Also called: +CG, Positive CG
