What Is Enhanced-V?
A V-shaped pattern of very cold cloud tops seen on satellite at the top of a severe storm's anvil. It signals a powerful updraft. In technical terms: A V-shaped region of cold infrared brightness temperatures downstream of an overshooting top, often enclosing a warmer wake, caused by strong upper-level flow diverting around and over the overshooting updraft; associated with severe hail, wind and tornadoes.
